Week 02 — August 27, 2025
Math
Bring an interesting problem to present/discuss: Isaac, Josaiah.
Latin
💡 In language learning, it’s especially important to practice every day. Try to spend 30–45 minutes each day working on Latin (by reading, listening, speaking aloud, etc.)
Keep working on Capitulum I:
- Listen to Capitulum I of Familia Romana while following along yourself in the text.
- Read Capitulum I aloud yourself (again). Consult the map and the notes in the sidebar to help yourself understand the text.
Lots of resources are available on the Latin Resources Page with supports, audio, answer keys, and additional readings. Some suggestions from that page:
- Complete the Pensa aloud (have a partner check you against the answer key)
- Review the CH1 key grammar
- Read/listen to the Colloquia Persōnārum or Fabullae Latinae readings for Ch. 1.
Finally, you are invited to Latin Club on Monday 9/25 8:00a–9:30a at the Kaus’ (205 Grandale).
Science
As described in the guide.
Reasoning
As described in the guide.
Literature
As described in the guide.
- Be sure to come prepared to discuss Much Ado. I recommend reading with a pencil/pen/highlighter in hand and marking up your text with espcially the following: pivotal passages (this seems essential to understanding the play), beautiful/memorable passages (this is something you’d want to remember for later). [See p. 214 in your Guide for an example of one detailed approach to marking texts thoughtfully.]
- Keep working on your poetry journal (reading and writing poems).
Optional / recommended:
- Watch the 1993 production of Much Ado About Nothing (available free on Tubi, or for rent on Amazon or Apple)
History
- Read Kidd’s American History: Chapters 2–3.
- Start thinking about topics (and sources you’d like to investigate) for your research paper.
- Start working on a timeline (as described in the guide). For this week, start recording key dates/events and think about what categories your timeline might have. (For example, you can look at this timeline of early church history and note his inclusion of key theologians and clergy as well as key doctines. What did he choose to leave off of his timeline?)
